Well.

I have been going through some shit, guys.

We all have, I suppose.

But yes, that's what's massively delayed updating this thing.

I would just like to publicly apologize to anyone who's felt I've been icy or rude to them, this past month or so.  I have been needing to keep to myself and meditate on a lot of aforementioned shit, but all around I'm evening out.  

I also don't really use this thing as a soapbox.  That being said, it was National Coming Out Day, recently. I didn't really share my story.

Look. It's like this:

As a lesbian, my pool is small.

As a goth/punk-ish lesbian, my pool gets even smaller.

And as a (quite frankly) awesome goth/punk-ish lesbian, my pool gets EXPONENTIALLY smaller.

So, let's just say, it can get rough, and very lonely at times.

And when I officiated things with myself and decided to inform the rest of the world who I really am, I accepted that it would be very lonely and hard. It already had been, leading up to that point, anyway.

But I had to answer what's right for me.

And I have put up with some shit from numerous sources.

I have had to deal with insecure friendships.

I have had to deal with sexual guilt, frustration and humiliation.

I have had to numb my strongest sense of being to not get beaten down by that in of itself.

But I have also grown into a very strong, resilient young woman.

And in doing that, I have experienced at least one amazing woman who makes something shoot through my body that makes me feel beautiful, and worthy of a warmth my body and soul craves. It makes up for the bullshit--which is an Everest, at this point.

And that's how I know.

Keeping in line with promoting acts like Secret Society of the Sonic Six and The Soft Moon, I GREATLY recommend you all check out Vice Device via the links provided in the sets.  Hailing out of that quirky and often gloomy town of Portland, OR, they play old school analog synths with driving bass lines, creating dark, minimal grooves.  Also, a quiet saxophone haunts certain tracks, adding sort of a neo-noir sound to a stripped electronic landscape.

It basically sounds how Blade Runner plays out, visually.

In the meantime, the big debut of Weird_POP--a night of off-beat 80s/90s tunes, minimal/new/darkwave, post-punk and indie pop--has been delayed until next month.  Sorry folks.  Myself and the others involved were pretty excited, but this may be a blessing in disguise.

Well, well, well-y well well.

And how have you all been?

I've been getting around, thanks.  It's been fun.  I've seen/heard new things, and I like it.

Sprinkled throughout this next bought of playlists are a few bands spread across different genres who you should definitely be checking out, especially if they happen to do any shows around your area.  Links to music videos are provided for the ditties played. 

The line-up:

Secret Society of the Sonic Six - An L.A. duo as eccentric (and stylish) as Gomez and Tish taking influences both musical and aesthetic from sci-fi, b-movies and film noir.  Lo-fi spooky grooves deemed fit to be the soundtrack to your own Lynchian cocktail lounge.  Delightfully odd/creepy cool.

The Mystery Lights - Residing in Brooklyn, originally from California, and from some cross-dimensional portal for fans of legitimate 60s garage/70s glam-inspired sounds.  Seeing them live is the closest you can get to seeing the real deal ala the likes of The Stooges back in the early 70s.  I'm talkin' raw power.  (Get it?)

The Soft Moon - Is amazing.  From New York but currently based out of Oakland, they manage to capture the 80s darkwave sound in the same vein as Joy Division flawlessly, injecting it with modern accents.  Pure sonic energy. 

Demodulate - Modern EBM/industrial hailing out of San Jose, I enjoy them because Brian Demodulate clearly has a bit of an ear not only for creating hard yet danceable beats with addictive synths, he has a knack for finding specific news blips to add a bit of social commentary to the tunes.  "Face Off" features sound bites from one of the most radical stories in the news over the past decade: the 'bath salt' face eater.  Good for stomping it out at the club.

Sometimes, completely unexpected things land on you all at once, and you're just kinda sideswiped.

I've needed a lot of time to process a lot of things.  I won't go into details.  I don't really want to.  Too much.  Too many words.

It just seems there's a lot on everyone's plates, these days..

A funny story before I hit you with a billion sets I didn't post:

Last night, at Death Guild (my first time back after a bit of a breather), I was sitting at one of the tables at DNA Pizza, writing in my physical journal, jotting out whatever needed to get out immediately.  This sweet gay guy who said what's up to me outside saw me writing away, with a more than likely pensive expression drawn over my face.

He looks at me and asks, 'Honey, are you okay?'

Yeah, I'm fine, thanks.  Just writing it all out.

'Okay, well like, you look like you need to smoke a bowl, ASAP.'

I jokingly said if he had one I would partake, otherwise I'm alright, and thanks for the concern.

Wonder what it says about your demeanor when the goth/industrial crowd is concerned for your general happiness/well-being, from an objective stance.

Yes, I am intimidated by the instrument.

But eventually, it will pass.  Eventually, I'm going to plug in the power, pull out the chair, and go to town on her.

In the meantime, to sort of even things out, I've been introduced to awesome musicians who I didn't even know were there this whole time, and reintroduced them to others who may be down to create, as well.  So that's paying something forward, isn't it?

I have been kind of busy lately, sorry about that.

Let me 'splain:

I love DJing.  I love spinning for The Box, and the amazing folks I've met through there.  I love dancing at clubs such as our fair one, and Death Guild/Cat Club events up in the city.  I act out, I *perform* while I spin...

But my passion, my drive, is creativity.

I want to create.

I want to create my own music.

Over the past year, I've noticed a lot of my drive has been dedicated to making good sets.  And like I said, I really love DJing for you guys...but things are shifting.  There is a change in the wind.

Performing to others' music isn't authentic, for me.

It's time.

I will still be spinning, but not as prolifically.  I will still be going out to clubs and other events, but not quite as avidly.

I'd like to make some music, guys.  Too many things are pointing me in that direction.
